The Hitcher (I thought) included some of the codes and conventions you would find in a Film Noir narrative. The fact that most of the story takes place behind the wheel like the 1950s film Detour, is a good enough comparison to the genre. The 1980s version include better elements of the tension and suspense in the story whereas the re-make makes the story more modern and less noir.
